This TED Talk by Reshma Saujani, the founder of Girls Who Code, is essential viewing for any parent to girls. It’s only 12 minutes and made me aware of something I have always felt but never heard explained or articulated so well.

The Disco Notes edition:

  • “We’re raising our girls to be perfect, and we’re raising our boys to be brave”
  • Most girls are taught to play it safe—smile, look pretty, be perfect
  • On the other hand, boys are habituated and rewarded to take risks
  • This carries into adult life.
